Commons Logistics
Printers
Q. Where are computers and printing?
A. The Media Center/Temporary Commons on the 2nd Floor, the
Reference Room on the 1st Floor, Ground floor lab, other OIT public and
departmental labs around campus.
Q. Where is the printer release station?
A.
The print release station is on the table next to the
printers along with the machine with the assistive software (Kurzweil,
Zoom Text).
Q. Where is the Color Printer/Release Station?
A. A Color printer is in the ground floor lab – no color printing from the commons computers in the media center.
DART Machines
Q. What do I do if the DART Machine breaks?
A. Call the Volcard office (the number is on the machine).
Q. Why not just make another sign that the DART machine, a copier, etc. is out of order?
A. There are dozens of signs all over the building. Our
patrons have reached a point where they aren’t reading them, plain and
simple.
Copiers
Q. Where is a copy machine?
A. There
are 2 copiers in the Temporary Commons/Media Center– 1 copy card and 1 volcard. This
website has information about all copiers in the library: http://www.lib.utk.edu/techsupport/copiers.html
Q. What happens if a copier jams?
A. Do NOT simply put up another sign. For the vast majority
of copier jams, open all the side compartments, and the front drop down
flap. Turn the green knobs and the paper should come out. If it still
won’t work, take out the paper trays and see if there is a random slip
of paper. If that still doesn’t work, call Tom Smith 865-454-0241
Q. What if the copier is really broken or will not read student ids?
A. If there is a problem with the Copy Card or ID readers contact David Ratledge 974 – 2871. If there is a problem with the copier itself that will require a service call contact Digital Production Services 974 – 4121.
Supplies
Q. Where is the extra paper/toner in the Temp Commons?
A. In the storage room right behind the Media Center desk.
Computers and Laptops
Q. Where are computers and printing?
A. The Media Center/Temporary Commons on the 2nd Floor, the Reference Room on the 1st Floor, Ground floor lab, other OIT public and departmental labs around campus.
Q. What is the checkout period for laptops? Can they be checked out longer than that?
A. 4 hours. All exceptions must be made by Circulation and David Atkins.
Q. Can the students use the Studio Computers when the others are in use?
A. No. The studio is a special lab for media production,
see question 1 for all blackboard, course reserves, email,
facebook/myspace, etc. needs.
Q. “I cannot log on to the laptop”
A. This is usually due to a wireless connection issue. It
sometimes helps to reboot the laptop or to move to another space and
try again.
